I woke up today maybe I got sleep maybe my inner rant got the best of me. So here goes, do you understand what a mess our world is (macro) and out country in particular (micro). The world is a mess and our country is just as much of a mess as the rest of the world here are examples: war, terror, poverty and injustice vs Ray Rice and NFL Commissioner Goodell. What are we the people worried about? Rice and Goodell. Really? Are you kidding me?
Oh 4 you are so inconsiderate you are heartless and mean. I don’t think so. Domestic violence is a problem and I am as concerned as the next person. But what happened? We don’t know because it is a personal matter between two Individuals who then made a decision to wed. The experts in the news make it seem like Mrs. Rice is a victim and as such had no ability to protect her interests; the media’s attention to this story is almost as offensive as the video. Women are smart and able to make personal choices. I also understand that some women who are abused remain in relationships that are unhealthy, but is that every woman?
The offended groups then go after the NFL’s Goodell who is basically the CEO of the NFL. Like any other CEO his main goal is profits and he has done a good job at that, as evidenced by a salary of in excess of 44 million for 2013. He may have seen the video before hand and made a decision based thereon. He might have lied and claimed not to have seen it. Regardless he made a decision, which is what he is paid to do – good or bad. Not according to some special interest groups; they are outraged he must go too. Congress along with the president who can’t find a solutions to many of our important domestic problems are ready to jump on this band wagon.
What next? Well of course, a congressional investigation is threatened. Is there not something better the government can be doing than investigating the NFL. There are laws in place to deal with domestic violence. They could and should be revamped to afford better protection. My problem is that with all the troubles in the world and our country our government’s focus need not be on football players and commissioners. The problem with our government is that politicians are more concerned over what powerful special interest groups push rather than the troubles of average Americans.
